What to expect during your early medical abortion?

During an abortion, women may experience physical and emotional symptoms. Physical symptoms may include heavy period-like bleeding, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and cramps. These are a normal.

If you experience very heavy bleeding, fevers (temperature above 38 degrees) or if you have a sharp constant pain in your lower abdomen or shoulder tip pain then please go to your local hospital’s emergency department.

Emotional complications may also occur. It is important to remember that these feelings are normal and that there are resources available to help. The Women’s Health Hub offers support and information, which can answer your questions and help you make an appropriate decision for you.

How Counselling Can Help: Before And After Abortion?

Counselling is an optional part of the abortion process. This is available both before and after the procedure. At The Women’s Health Hub, we prioritise your emotional well-being. Before the procedure, we can educate and support you. This will help clear your doubts about your pregnancy options by providing accurate information about abortion and its alternatives.

After the procedure, counselling can provide emotional support and address any feelings that you may experience. We will refer you through to free counselling services, which are non-judgmental, compassionate, and personalised to meet your individual needs. We understand that everyone’s experience is different, and we aim to provide exceptional support throughout your abortion journey.
